The fight against doping is not about good over evil, right versus wrong, the conflict between morality and sinfulness. Rather it is about equality of opportunity, preserving the spirit of sports, and the purity of emotion and human effort associated with every sporting endeavor. Therefore when elite athletes are associated with doping, it shatters the foundational framework of a fan and fellow athletes alike. This article does not delve upon the outcome of the controversial doping scandal over Maria Sharapova but rather the vacillating nature of her claims that makes us question, “Can the athletes always pass the burden to systemic fallacies?”
